About the charity
The Friends of Carlisle Victorian and Turkish Baths are a group of enthusiastic volunteers working to reopen the last original Turkish Baths in the Northwest for the benefit of residents, community organisations, small businesses and tourists.
What our donation will help fund
The Benefact Group’s donation was a massive boost after a difficult few months for our charity. The closure of the Baths last November was very difficult, especially for the longstanding users, many of whom have used the Turkish Baths to escape the stress of everyday life for decades. Without a clarity on future ownership, it is difficult for us to secure grant funding for further viability work, and the loss of a grant at the start of 2023 for exactly that reason was a huge blow.
The £1,000 award was therefore very timely. It has enabled us to reprint our information leaflet, book stalls at community events and hire an arts venue for a special fundraising event later this year.
