Cleft Lip & Palate Association

Registered Charity Number: 1108160

About the charity

Every day in the UK, three babies are born with a cleft. It can have an ongoing impact on feeding, speech, hearing, teeth placement and more.

What our donation will help fund

This donation will help CLAPA to be there from the moment of diagnosis with reassurance, information, and a welcoming community for families, children and adults born with a cleft. With £1,000, CLAPA can provide a range of services to support new families, including:

  • Four free-of-charge ‘Welcome Packs’ of special bottles and teats to new babies born with a cleft who might otherwise need a nasogastric tube to feed.
  • Ten ‘Callie and her Cleft’ books to help explain to older siblings why the new baby in the family might look a little different
  • A connection with a trained volunteer Parent Supporter to give confidential, one-to-one advice and reassurance
  • An online Support Group for 20 families to connect and share experiences.

Thank you for helping us make sure no one affected by cleft in the UK goes through their journey alone!

“CLAPA relies on the support of the incredible UK cleft community to provide our life-changing support services. With the cost-of-living crisis hitting hard, it’s wonderful that initiatives like the Movement for Good Awards are able to give ordinary people the chance to make such a tangible difference to the causes that matter to them the most. It’s an honour to have won this generous donation thanks to the dedication of our community. As a small charity with big ambitions, this £1,000 will go a long way towards helping us ensure no one affected by cleft in the UK goes through their journey alone.”
