About the charity
Comhaltas in Britain strengthens communities in Britain through traditional Irish music.
What our donation will help fund
In 2023, we will use the grant from Movement for Good to support a project that will give existing and aspiring teachers in our local music groups the opportunity to learn new skills, continue their professional development, access new resources and come together to face challenges and share ideas. The project will connect teachers with years of experience with those aspiring to teach, or early in their careers, to build confidence, provide networking opportunities and build a supportive community. Specific activities will include:
- A teachers’ forum, connecting those teaching and aspiring to teach Traditional Irish Music across Britain. (online and face to face).
- An online directory of Irish traditional teachers, containing contact details of Irish traditional music teachers across Britain.
- An online hub of resources to use in schools and with students in local community music settings.
- The chance to apply for an annual scholarship to Ireland to receive high-level teacher training (one recipient per year).
- Paid developmental opportunities leading 8-12 week music projects in local schools.
- A pilot mentoring programme, whereby existing teachers will become mentors for 10 aspiring teachers.
