About the Charity

Lewisham Music is an award-winning youth charity delivering a vibrant programme of accessible music for children and young people in Lewisham.

What our donation will help fund

Funding will allow us to work with our extensive network of referral partners across youth services, housing, the voluntary sector and children’s services. The funding will create spaces for young people experiencing challenging circumstances to co-design our programme of weekly, year-round music making. The programme will run at our regenerated community arts centre The Fellowship, situated in the heart of Bellingham estate.

Our creative music activities will be led by our team of inspirational music facilitators who have skills across inclusion, youth work and special educational needs. Our weekly programme of activity will include music production, songwriting, rap and lyricism, singing and our youth-led radio station ‘Radio Lewisham’.

Our holiday projects will bring together communities of young people from across our network of voluntary sector partners. All our group music-making activity is enhanced by a year-round programme of child-centered individual learning and mentoring for young people in receipt of free school meals.

Our funded programme will:

  1. Develop young people’s wellbeing, creativity, self-efficacy, agency and motivation.
  2. Develop young people’s sense of belonging within their community.
  3. Increase the levels of engagement in arts and culture for children, young people and families living in South Lewisham.

“We are delighted to have received the Movement for Good! This funding will allow us to deliver our community programme from our community music venue situated in the heart of the Bellingham Estate. We want every child and young person in Lewisham to experience the power of music through accessible, inclusive programmes that inspire creativity and confidence. We believe music can unlock potential and build happier, healthier communities.”
