About the Charity

OSCAR India uses the power of sport and life skills to make children living in low income communities in India resilient and future-ready, driving transformative change across generations.

What our grant will help to fund

The grant will fund an immersive educational trip hosted by the University of Edinburgh for 8 young leaders and two staff from the OSCAR Foundation, a charity supporting underprivileged youth from marginalised communities in India. These youth, who mentor up to 30 children every week, will experience a life-changing educational, cultural and sports tour in Scotland. The programme will expose them to diverse cultures, broadening their perspectives on global issues, social structures and cultural practices.

This trip will create meaningful interactions between OSCAR youth and university students and professors, promoting global citizenship and understanding. The exchange will inspire both groups to overcome challenges and encourage collaboration on volunteer projects and research initiatives.

OSCAR Foundation helps children from low-income families stay in education, offering life skills and football programmes that enhance their life chances. Many of these children, often lacking birth certificates, never dreamed of travelling abroad. Led by Lucinda, Head of OSCAR International, this life changing tour builds on a proven record of transforming lives and inspiring communities both in India and the UK. The impact extends beyond the individual, positively influencing their families, neighbours and peers and all those they meet during the tour.

“Expanding our International Tour Programme to include young adults will greatly enhance our work in India. It will inspire more OSCAR Foundation graduates to stay connected with us through the OSCAR Alumni Programme. The tour to the University of Edinburgh will empower them to continue their education, avoid early marriage and strive to transform their own lives and those of their families. It’s an incredible educational journey, from getting a passport to boarding a plane, discovering a new culture, forging new friendships and making a profound, mutual impact on the host students as they learn from one another.”
