About the Charity

Forres, Nairn & District SCIO Riding for the Disabled provides free, weekly, term-time therapeutic riding sessions and ground-based horse care for 32 children with disabilities from 9 schools in Moray and Nairnshire, together with non-riding sessions (Tea With A Pony initiative) for those people living with dementia and other cognitive impairment in the local area.

What our donation will help fund

This donation will contribute towards the annual running costs for both the children’s riding sessions and the Tea with a Pony sessions. The running costs include hire of the equestrian centre, instructors, ponies and transport, insurance and RDA UK membership – amounting to £850 weekly expenditure. Adding in equipment, replacements, tack cleaning materials etc, the group incurred a weekly expenditure of £1,063 in the last financial year.

This donation will contribute to our sustainability, ensuring that we can provide the continuity so necessary for our participants.  Our activity provides specialist support to children, schools and families by providing therapeutic activities not available elsewhere.  We do not charge for any of our activities to ensure that participants can attend irrespective of income.

We are the only RDA group within travelling distance of these schools; without our group, these activities would not be possible. These activities are not a statutory provision, nor do they form part of the curriculum.

“This donation which was achieved through our supporters nominating us is testimony to the need for our activities, to how much they are appreciated and to how much work is put in by our Trustees and volunteer team. Thank you.”
