About the charity
The Society of Antiquaries of London is a heritage charity that promotes understanding of the human past and recognises distinction in this field through election to its Fellowship, its mission being ‘the encouragement, advancement and furtherance of the study and knowledge of antiquities and history in this and other countries’ (Royal Charter 1751).
What our grant will help to fund
The Society of Antiquaries holds an amazing Library and Museum collection including a 13th century copy of the Magna Carta and the tools that shaped Stonehenge. The Movement for Good Award will help us share our Nation’s shared history and culture by offering half-day workshops for individuals with physical and mental disabilities.
The project will specifically engage people who find it hardest to access our collections and resources by providing adapted learning activities and collection handling. We will be working with Vocaleyes to develop study days for blind and partially sighted groups, UK Disability Month to develop learning sessions for disability groups and We Are Beams to help us create learning activity days for children with physical and neurological impairment.
“The Society of Antiquaries has been conserving, researching, and sharing knowledge of the past for over 300 years and this money will help us celebrate our Nation’s shared history and culture by offering activities for people who find it hardest to access our collections and resources.”
Andrew Macdonald, CEO, Society of Antiquaries of London
