About the Charity
StreetVet is a national charity that provides free accessible veterinary care and services to the pets of those experiencing homelessness across the UK, ensuring pets stay healthy, happy, and by their owner’s side.
What our grant will help to fund
StreetVet’s Cornwall team provides free veterinary care across the county to 342 registered clients through 12 volunteer vets and vet nurses. Demand has doubled in the past year, stretching our outreach services, which are conducted in collaboration with social care providers. Over three-quarters of Cornwall’s neighbourhoods are more deprived than the national average, increasing the need for our services.
This project addresses the critical need for accessible veterinary care for the pets of those experiencing homelessness in Cornwall. Beneficiaries include rough sleepers, homeless hostel residents, those in temporary accommodation, and individuals facing hardships such as domestic violence, relationship breakdowns, and the cost of living crisis. The project aims to overcome barriers to vet care, including financial constraints and societal judgment, ensuring pets receive the care they need and deserve.
The grant will enable StreetVet to maintain and expand its services in Cornwall, potentially opening new locations if needed. It will also allow us to provide more “out of area” support, where most of our veterinary costs are incurred. This funding will help us meet the increasing demand, provide essential veterinary care, and improve the lives of pets and their owners experiencing homelessness.
“At StreetVet, we are dedicated to providing free veterinary care to pets of those experiencing homelessness, ensuring pets receive the care and support they deserve. Our work has a profound impact on the lives of these companion animals and their devoted owners, fostering a vital human-animal bond. This grant will enable us to expand our services, reach more communities in need, and continue to make a significant difference in the lives of pets and their owners across Cornwall.”
