About the Charity
The Dove Centre is a social activity centre supporting vulnerable elderly people to remain as independent as possible.
What our donation will help fund
The donation will be put towards purchasing a new (to us!) minibus for the Dove Centre. The majority of our clients would not be able to attend without the transport we provide so it forms a crucial part of our service.
We provide fully accessible door-to-door transport, and we feel that this only adds to the level of care we are able to give – a day at the Dove begins with getting on a warm, safe, comfortable and dependable bus and it makes such a positive impact on our service users as so many of whom are unable to get out and about on their own. As one of our service users recently told us:
“It’s everything, the transport is brilliant as I can’t get out otherwise, but most of all it’s the comradery with the people and the staff from as soon as you step on the bus. The bond that you build up even after a short time made me feel so welcome. I feel part of something at the Dove; going to the Dove helps me immensely.”
“The Dove Centre is the only dedicated centre for the over 50s in the Wester Hailes and surrounding areas. Our focus is to support older people to remain as independent as they can be. We want to enhance the lives of our service users and make sure they feel empowered by creating opportunities for them as individuals and in the community.
