Norwich named UK’s Kindest City for second year running

Norwich has been crowned the UK’s Kindest City for the second year running, after residents submitted more charity nominations per head than anywhere else in the country through Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards.

Between January and September 2026, people in Norwich submitted an impressive 11,922 nominations for charities and good causes, demonstrating the city’s continued commitment to supporting communities both locally and across the UK.

Joining Norwich in the top ten are:

2. Milton Keynes

3. Wolverhampton

4. Plymouth

5. Swindon

6. Newcastle upon Tyne

7. Luton

8. Bath

9. Cardiff

10. Birkenhead

The recognition comes through the Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards, an annual programme which encourages the public to nominate charities close to their hearts for funding. Over the past decade, Benefact Group has donated more than £250 million to charities and good causes across the UK and Ireland.

Benefact Group is one of the UK’s most unusual financial services organisations. Owned by a charity, it gives all its available profits to good causes and includes specialist brands such as Ecclesiastical Insurance, Ansvar and EdenTree. Through Ecclesiastical Insurance, it helps protect many of the nation’s most loved and iconic buildings, from heritage landmarks and historic churches to charities, schools and community organisations.

Chris Pitt, Group Impact Director of Benefact Group, said: “It’s always inspiring to see people champion the charities and causes that mean the most to them. We’re especially grateful to the people of Norwich for taking the time to submit their nominations throughout the year. Every nomination represents a vote of confidence in the role of charities, allowing them to provide vital support in order to make a difference in their communities.

“The public response to the Movement for Good Awards was once again extraordinary this year. What began as a way to support the causes that matter most to people has grown into a nationwide force for good across the nation. Each nomination reflects the generosity and compassion of the person making it, helping more charities access the funding they need.”

Now in its eighth year, the Movement for Good Awards invites members of the public to nominate charities for funding that can help improve lives and strengthen communities across the UK and Ireland. Nominations can be made at movementforgood.com.

* To calculate which city showed the most generosity, Benefact Group compared the number of charity nominations from each city with its population size, using the latest Office for National Statistics data.
